Several years ago we were on the mission field in Ukraine where we lived for three years. In the span of three years we moved up to six times and the last move broke the camel’s back for me (the stress and strain of moving, along with culture shock lead to an an explosion of anger.) I was so disappointed with myself because of my reaction and weakness in this area. That night I was restless and could not sleep. Around 2am our little girl, Amanda Glory, came into to our room and crawled into bed between my wife and I. Unbeknownst to her, at one point she flung her arm over my back… I then heard the Holy Spirit say, “GLORY PROTECTS.”
GLORY protects, shields, overshadows, and covers. Over the past month or so the Lord has been speaking me in a repetitive way about Him being my SHIELD.
The Lord said, in Genesis 15:1, “Do not be afraid Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward”
The Psalmist David speaks about the Lord being his shield in Psalm 3:3, “You are a shield around about me. You bestow glory on me and lift up my head.”
In reading this truth I encountered something I had never seen before… which opened up my eyes to the richness and power of this truth if received and believed. The Hebrew word for shield is “magen,” meaning the Lord is our shield & protector. David is declaring that the Lord is a “shield” around (or about) him, which carries the sense that the Lord is behind, through, out of, and around. We are shielded, protected, and wrapped in His glory. David says in Psalm 18:32, “God, you have wrapped me in power and made my way perfect” (TPT)
The implication is that God shields us by taking us into Himself, into His “glory.” This is profoundly encouraging and comforting to know. For it is Christ in us who is the hope of GLORY. For we have died and our lives are now hidden in Christ with God. In Christ we are in a place of divine concealment and security, truly His glory protects us!!!
In a time of journalling the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said,
“Son, live in the truth of who I am in you and how I see you. You are a forgiven and redeemed son. You are a good son – I believe in you and I am not ashamed of you… You have been made worthy and are precious and valuable in my sight.”
How we think God sees us is crucial to the empowering emotion of confidence. Our Father in heaven is for us and not against us. He is watching over our lives and cares for us deeply… we are the apple His eye. He will never abandon us or reject us. His love for us and His acceptance of us is unconditional.
We have been taken into His “glory”. We have been “tucked in”, overshadowed and covered. The Lord has taken us in and enfolded/surrounded us with Himself.
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you shall find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. “ – Psalm 91:4
“…He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.” – Psalm 18:30
The Lord will be a sheltering, supernatural presence to us. A place of glorious rest; a sanctuary for our soul. Deuteronomy 33:12 says,
“Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.”
We are His beloved children and oh how He loves you and me.
Many years ago in 1667, Marjorie Kempe, a 34 year old widow who lived in Massachusetts was given a prophetic word which said, “More pleasing to me than all your prayers, works, and penances is that you would believe I love you.”
My prayer is this:
“Lord Jesus help us to take hold of these words and embody this truth with our whole heart.”
“We must courageously embrace this truth of who we are and walk in it; until we come to know it as our reality.” – Kris Valloten
“Lord be glorified in our lives!!! May your Holy Spirit strengthen us and may we be enriched as we receive this deposit of truth from your word into our hearts.”
God our Father is good, He is wise, and He knows best!!!
