“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
Being a follower of Jesus is a wonderful privilege. We are here on this earth as walking proof that God’s ways are good and they produce a life that is full of joy, peace, and connection. There is a challenge to living in opposition to the enemy: the opposition!
Living out the Way of God can sometimes feel exhausting. It’s hard to stand in faith, face to face with the ones who disagree with us, or to not lose heart when we don’t see immediate results. In Galatians, Paul reminds us to not get bogged down by all that we face. He reminds us to continue to stand for kindness, compassion, and peace.
When we choose to keep our eyes fixed on God and the good he has given us to do we express that we have faith in his plan. We believe that God is using our generous, life-giving acts to positively affect this world in which we live. It’s always amazing to me to hear the things that people remember. I hear things like, “He remembered my name” or “She followed up on the conversation we had last week.” I myself have been impacted by someone just reaching out in a text to see how my day was, or having someone save me a seat in a new situation.
These acts, small though they may seem, change the very fabric of our homes, our cities, our nation. As Kersten said on Sunday, don’t feel like you need to do all the things all the time. Start right where you are with the small things that impact every day. Have a coffee with a friend. Call someone who popped into your mind. Learn the names of the check out people in your grocery store or favourite Starbucks.
Love the ones in your day to day and know that at the proper time you will reap a harvest if you do not give up.
