“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’ The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” – Lamentations 3:22-26
Recently, I was sharing a sermon at a retirement home. The teaching was about God being faithful through every season of life, and recognizing His hand in those seasons. I shared that God has carried you, God is carrying you today, and eventually God will carry you home.
Since I was at a retirement home, there was an emphasis for those who are saved, on the “God will carry you home” portion of the teaching. It was a moment for me to reflect on God’s goodness, but to also think about the future. To think about God‘s faithfulness through childhood, adolescence, marriage, raising kids, and beyond. It was also a time to reflect on the losses in life as well as the joys.
One thing I would highlight is God‘s constant presence through it all. Even when I didn’t see it, even when I didn’t understand, He was there. He was there in His kindness and in His love for me. He showed up. He was present and constant.
It brought me to this Bible verse in Isaiah 46:4,
“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”
What an incredible promise this is for us!
He made you, carries you, sustains you, rescues you. Through this, God is showing us that He has carried you, He is carrying you today and eventually, God will carry you home to be with him in eternity.
My prayer for you today is that you would experience God‘s presence in your life and know that he will never leave you or forsake you. His faithfulness to you is a lifelong promise and it points to the hope that we have in Christ. Wherever you are today, know that you’re loved.
