“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servant and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents…” – Matthew 25:14-15

This is the famous parable of the talents. God teaches that He entrusts people with resources (time, skills, finances, wisdom, strength) opportunities, and responsibilities. This comes with a responsibility of faithful stewardship and service unto God.

Over the last few weeks, The World Cup has been happening. One beautiful moment I came across was the sendoff for Team Curaçao. They worshipped together, and they took the opportunity to share the gospel with everyone who would listen as their sendoff party before travelling to the tournament.

It was a beautiful display of putting God first, giving God the glory, and a reminder that the biggest achievement in life is to have relationship with Jesus. The team used their platform of success in sport to share the good news of Jesus with their country, and the world.

Another great example is recent Stanley Cup champion Jaccob Slavin of the Carolina Hurricanes said that winning is great, but even if he didn’t win, the bigger achievement in life was leading a fellow teammate (Jalen Chatfield) to Christ and being a part of his baptism.

I love seeing Christians using whatever talents they have for the glory of God. We’ve all been given something. We may not be professional athletes, but while we have the gift of life in our bodies, we have resources to serve the Lord with. Maybe it’s the energy to serve, finances to help people and to fund the kingdom, work, skills, abilities, or time to give to those who need it.

My question for us today is: Are we using our “talents” to build our own kingdom or to serve God? Know that every act we do for the Lord is worship unto him. Nothing is wasted. Every sacrifice we make in service for Him is a beautiful offering that God receives.

Remember that everything that has been put in our hands is a blessing from God. They are blessings for our lives and also to serve others in need. In this way, your serving is an act of worship to God.

Prayer: Dear God, what are the talents that you’ve placed in my hands? Please help me to hear your voice when you are calling me to use my talents for your glory.

Have a great week,
